Good to know
Transparent pixels stay transparent
The converter does not paint a white background behind your PNG. The WebP output supports alpha transparency, so logos and cutouts can sit over different page backgrounds.
Quality and file size are separate choices
This tool creates lossy WebP images. Quality 100 does not mean lossless encoding. Sharp text, diagrams and small icons may look better as the original PNG; compare the exports before replacing them.
Local conversion with clear limits
Files are decoded and encoded on your device. No image is uploaded to our server. Embedded metadata is omitted, and closing or reloading the page clears the selected files.
Frequently asked questions
Does PNG to WebP conversion preserve transparency?
Yes. Transparent pixels remain transparent in the exported WebP. No background color is added. Check the result against both light and dark backgrounds when the edges of a logo or cutout matter.
Will WebP always be smaller than PNG?
No. Photos and complex screenshots can become smaller, but tiny icons or PNG files that are already optimized may produce larger WebP files. Each result shows its byte size and percentage change so you can choose the smaller version.
Is PNG to WebP conversion lossless here?
No. The quality slider controls lossy WebP encoding, even at 100%. Keep the original PNG when exact pixel values matter, such as for source graphics, technical diagrams or repeated editing.
Can I convert several PNG files at once?
Yes. Add up to 10 PNG files and convert them using the same quality setting. Download the results individually or in one ZIP archive. Files that fail validation are identified separately and do not prevent valid images from converting.
Can I use the PNG to WebP converter on a phone?
Yes, in a browser that can decode your PNG images. If native WebP export is unavailable, the page uses its bundled WebP encoder. Large batches need more memory, so use fewer or smaller files on a phone.
